In fact the Les Paul Custom SG, whose lettering is immortalized on a plastic plate at the end of the neck, replaced the legendary Les Paul Standard, which was considered far too clunky at the time. The new flagship from Gibson was supposed to be slim and light to stand up to the competition from California at the time. Due to its easy playability, the Les Paul Custom SG was nicknamed "The Fretless Wonder". The lettering "SG" stands for "Solid Guitar" and is still one of the icons in rock music. Especially when a solid rock sound is needed, the SG is the first choice. The ultra-thin body with an all-round contour ensures a light and extremely pleasant feel. The list of SG users is endless.
