Frequently asked questions:
What is Steel Seal™ made of? Steel Seal™ is made of several chemicals that, when combined under the right circumstances, creates a permanent seal as strong as steel. How does Steel Seal™ work? Steel Seal™ is added to an antifreeze/water mixture and poured into the radiator of a cold engine. Once the engine is started and reaches operating temperature, Steel Seal™ is distributed through the engine. The product is drawn into the damaged area and seals the crack with a thermo-chemical bonding action process. Which is similar to that of an epoxy resin just in liquid form! Will Steel Seal™ clog the engine’s cooling system? Steel Seal™ is a clear formula that contains no fibrous materials or particles that could clog engine coolant passages. You can see that for yourself just look through the bottle. Will antifreeze compromise the seal? No, Whilst it can be used with any antifreeze for best results we recommend to use a good quality 2 year (blue) ethelyne glycol antifreeze. How long will steel seal last? With Steel Seal™ the seal is permanent under normal operating conditions, but there is always the possibility of another leak in another part of the engine. What will Steel Seal™ not fix? Steel Seal™ will not seal leaks in hoses, seals, water pumps, or extremely large cracks in the head or block resulting in the vehicle not starting. If it does not run Steel Seal can not work as it relies on temperature. Is Steel Seal a scam? No Steel Seal is not a scam and we offer an easy to claim money back guarantee please speak to one of our many stockists to see how confident they are in the product. What do I do if I have used an inferior or other product making similar claims? There are several good quality products on the market such as K-Seal, Holts Radweld and Seal up however they all rely on fillers unlike Steel Seal and can therefore break down. The cooling system must be flushed thoroughly with water, NOT a flushing agent. Are there any special precautions I should take when using Steel Seal™? Steel Seal™ should be kept out of reach of children. Avoid eye or skin contact. If eyes or skin become irritated with Steel Seal™, rinse with cold water immediately. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Call a physician immediately. How Much do I Need? 1 bottle is enough for vehicles upto 2.0 litres in Engine size, 2 bottles for 2.0-4.0 litre cars and 3 botles for anything over 4.0

Directions

How To Use Steel Seal Now a Simple pour in solution compatible with all types of Antifreeze and any vehicle with a water cooling system. Blown Headgasket Repair in 3 Easy Steps... 1.       Make sure engine is cold and remove the radiator cap. Pour Steel Seal directly into the radiator. Tighten the radiator cap back on. 2.       Turn heater and fan to maximum and start the engine. Let your car tick over for 60 minutes. Turn off vehicle and let it cool completely. Top up the radiator with  antifreeze and water, then replace the radiator cap on tightly. 3.       Leave the Steel Seal in your system drive the vehicle as usual.   NB. If you are introducing Steel Seal via an expansion tank please make sure that there is sufficient room for Steel Seal to go directly into the cooling system and that it does not just sit in expansion tank reservoir. For best results; 1) If you have tried inferior products flush your cooling system with water after disconnecting bottom radiator hose. Do not use a flushing agent. 2) If you have flushed system reconnect bottom radiator hose. Additional Steel Seal Directions These directions are for people that have a lot of back pressure building in the cooling system, usually shown as bubbling in the header tank or air forcing past the coolant cap. 1) Locate the cylinder causing the bubbling in the overflow tank or backpressure. (Remove plugs one at a time till bubbling stops 2) Before starting the engine, remove the spark plug or injector from the cylinder that was causing the bubbling in the overflow tank or back pressure. If accessible, remove injector wire from that cylinder. This will limit the amount of unburned fuel going into the combustion chamber. 3) If you can not find the spark plug that is missing, run the engine with the coolant level down to the top of the radiator core and with the radiator cap off or leave the expansion cap off the expansion bottle with water only just visible. 4) Make sure to run the engine up to temperature with the spark plug /Injector out and for the one final time with the spark plug/injector back in place.

Aliitle History:

The Product was developed in the USA and has been through some very strict testing an independent laboratory,Scott Laboratory has performed a thorough evaluation of both Steel Seal™ and its competitors and found Steel Seal™ to be superior to all products tested. Steel Seal™ has been used successfully in over 20,000 vehicles.
Steel Seal has been on the market since November of 1999.  It rolled out by sending 80,000 infomercial style videos to nearly every mechanic shop in the states.  This was followed with advertising in Motor Age, Motor, Underhood Service, Auto Remarketing, Used Car News, Used Car Dealer and Tech Shop.  The combined circulation of these magazines literally reaches nearly every shop manager, mechanic and used car dealer in the United States.  The major advantage of Steel Seal is the durability of the seal.  The formula creates a seal that on a molecular level is close to the various types of metals in an engine, so that the seal will expand and contract at a similiar rate with the engine.  This has led to excellent repair longevity.

Testimonials: (from www.steelseal.co.uk)

"Hi? ?Well just to add this to your testimonials.? ?I bought a rover 214 R Reg as a work car, one week in and suprise suprise the haed gasket went.  My local garages quoted between £500 and £800.  The car only cost me £500.  A friend of mine recommended Steel Seal.  I did check the site and I also found it to good to be true.  BUT........I ordered some, £30 worth a gamble.  I drained off the coolant system and left the pipe work off all night to ensure it had emptied.  Poured 5 boiling kettles through the system to drain it out.  Connected the pipes back on and poured in the steel seal.  I topped up with the recommended anti-freeze (Halfords £10) and ran it up till it got to the optimum heat.  I did this three times leaving an hour between each time.  Nothing else just that.  I did however forgot to tighten up a pipe and after a while a saw some of my fluid going down my path (my bad), I did think I may have lost some steel seal.? ?So...............does it work????????? ?Yes, I was constantly checking the temp gauge, checking for smoke from the back, but all was good.  I bought the steel seal to get me up north (200 mile) then was going to trade it in.  But 2000 yes 2000 mile later and its going strong.  No water loss, no smoke.  Im now keeping the car.  To prove I dont work for Steel Seal my email address is [E-Mail von eBay entfernt] if anyone would like comment."

"So far after just over a week my son's Rover 216 is still ok. Temp guage rock steady where it should be and no loss of fluid to speak of or oil in water. I've told him to drive it carefully, he is only doing journeys of 3 - 5 miles at present as we are being cautious. Fingers crossed."

"I was as sceptical as everyone else when I bought this stuff, water?leaking into the oil, car overheating, head gasket gone, confirmed by a?garage. Choices!! £600 for a head gasket repair on an '01 MGTF with?60,000 miles on the clock or £30 for a bottle of miracle cure. It had to?be worth a try. As any MG owner will tell you it is almost impossible to?get at the engine anyway so DIY was not really an option. When the?bottle arrived I read the instructions and went to have a look at?flushing the coolant. No chance in the driveway with only the standard?jack and anyway I had poured so much water into it in the last week or?so that I reckoned it was pretty well flushed. Otherwise, instructions?followed to the letter and, after an oil change it is running perfectly.?120 miles yesterday, brought it to work today, that's confidence for?you! The temperature gauge never moved from normal and the water level?is exactly where it was. Long may it continue. If it is still as good in?a month or so I may even be able to watch the road when I am driving?instead of having my eyes glued to the temperature gauge and I can get?rid of the gallon of water I carry in the boot.?Thanks.?Graeme Smart?Dunfermline?Fife"

"Hey,thought I'd let you know your stuff doesn't just do heads.I have a '94 Toyota 4x4 pick up called Doris.162,000 miles but still young at heart,so when the heater matrix dumped all its water in the foot well I was a bit miffed.I got a coffee & went on line but couldn't find a matrix for less than £120 then the dashboard has to come out,all a bit much in the middle of a cold snap,-9 last night.I have no faith in Barrs or Radweld, never have, never will but have used egg whites with some success in my first car in '77,I digress, got another coffee & looked up coolent leaks & Steelseal was mentioned on a Hilux Surf forum so I went to your site, didn't mention rad's or matrix leaks so went to local stockist,Family Garage at Lingfield,he'd done a rad last year with it & all was well so I got some green water,no coffee tho.Later sat with a coffee I went thru instructions, half a dozen times, phoned help line twice with what might sound stupid questions but I needed to get it right. So I followed instructions verbatim.First warm up nochange, coffee while Doris cools, second warm up still full  of steam, another coffee while Doris cooled,I knew it was a waste of 30 quid, third warm up was a drive round the block...it's worked! flipping 'eck, put kettle on,its wonderful.I am so surprised, didn't think it would,It's green water for heavens sake.Doris is happy too...Fanx...Think I'll have a drive to cafe for a coffee...Martin
Good Afternoon, "

"Hi, Used Steel Seal about a month ago on my Ford Explorer, and I must say my engineer brother, who did the job for me was very skeptical, however after following the instructions to the letter, it really does seem to have cured the leak in the head gasket. There is no more loss of water and the car seems to be running fine, I am very impressed thank you, ?Regards, Penny Sprackling
Having served a mechanical apprenticeship and worked in Formula one for the last ten years i was very very sceptical about the chances of half a litre of lime cordial sorting out my missus Renault Scenic blown head gasket. ?OPTION 1. RENAULT DEALER REPAIR. £991inc vat (not including any problems on way i.e. skimming of head, spark eroding broken exhaust studs etc).?OPTION 2. NON DEALER REPAIR. £600 inc vat (not including any problems as above).?OPTION 3. REPAIR MYSELF. parts £90 inc vat (non Renault)Apart from taking all day if not all weekend, plus the aggro of not having the right special tool at half 5 on a Saturday night, (not including any problems as above which are bound to happen if you take the job on yourself!!).?OPTION 4. STEEL SEAL. £31.74 to my door + £10 antifreeze.?Mix half a litre of lime cordial (that’s what it looks like) into a standard antifreeze- water mix and refill your system, start and stop the engine a few times top up the header tank and its done. Well i chose option 4, started at lunchtime, left it overnight (last procedure is on stone cold engine). Started it up one last time the next morning, topped it up and 500 miles later the temp gauge nor the coolant level have moved - Best £30 I’ve spent for a long time. Highly recommended if only because if it doesn’t work you’ve only shelled out £30 and lost a day. Nice one – Spike For further information on the Renault F1 Team visit our web site at www.renaultf1.com"

"hi just to let you know i used the two bottles of steal seal in a scammell explorer ,the rad  and engine hold ten gallons of water.the head gasket was leeking very badly, i put the steal seal in but could not get the engine any hotter than 90deg f   (you could drive this thing up the north face of everest and it would still only be luke warm) did it three times problem solved  even the little weeps around the water cooled exhaust  manifold have stopped. This engine is 10.5 litres and is now waterproof with no leaks whatsoever. You have great product and I am sure I will be using you again."

"I own a 414si Rover which had suffered a head gasket failure, coolant had started to leak into the oil resulting in a mayo looking film forming on the oil filler cap. After having suffered the same problem on the original engine in the car and now the same problem with the second hand engine I had installed, I was thinking that was it. I had already shelled out £600 and had nothing to show for it apart from making the garage profit. I had used other products, the particle types that are meant to stop the leak but they only worked temporally about a week and that was it. I looked at the internet for a last desperate attempted at seeing if there was anything out there before I scrapped the thing and came across steelseal. It came with good references and been Lab tested so I thought why not try it. I followed the instructions but without taking out the thermostat as it reckoned it didn't need it. Six weeks on and having travelled 1000miles  so far the coolant is still at the right level and haven't lost a drop. I am very impressed at the moment with the out come I will certainly recommend this product to anybody with similar problems. Will let you know how the car is doing in six months.
Regards Philip Calthorpe"

"Hi Just an update on my 96 Vectra I used Steelseal on some 3 months ago. The car is still running sweet as a nut with no loss of coolant whatsoever after covering some 3000 miles. I have recommended your product to a few people who have tried it on a BMW, Fiat Punto, Subaru Impretza and a Vauxhall Astra and it has worked in every case so I'm owed quite a few drinks from these guys. A great product and very highly recommended. Regards"

"I would just like to let you know how absolutely delighted we are with your product and have just ordered another one for friends - what a fantastic creation! You are also very easy to do business with, prompt email if problems and paypal!! What more can you ask for except a person on the end of the phone and you have those as well! You can class us as truly satisfied customers. Keep up the good work it's so refreshing these days. Best Regards Penny and Malcolm Lavery, Derbyshire."

"Incredible, still can't believe it.Rover 216 Si P reg sat in the garden for the last two years since the head gasket blew, Decided to try "Steel Seal" before scrapping it. The car is now taxed, insured etc and is running sweet as a nut.I did not take the thermostat out due to its awkward location plus I have to admit it was only a half hearted attempt on my part as I didn't really think "Steel Seal" would work, how wrong could I be. Thanks??Used your product today on a 96 Vauxhall Vectra with a blown head gasket, water was coming out of the exhaust and also getting into the oil and back pressure into the coolant. We followed the instructions to the letter i.e. Flushed out the coolant system and took out the thermostat, replaced the hoses but not the thermostat just the housing and filled the system with 50% Fuchs antifreeze and 50% water and the steel seal of course and ran the engine until the fan kicked in then switched off the engine and left to cool for an hour. We then started the car again and left until the fan kicked in, at this point I took off the filler cap and the back pressure had gone so the steel seal had obviously worked. I have since covered about 50 miles with no loss of coolant and the temp gauge running at normal. The guy who was helping me is a trained mechanic and he was very sceptical that it would work but now he is sold on it and will definitely use it himself. This stuff is unbelievable and is definitely worth a try before paying out a fortune on a head gasket replacement. Thank you Steel Seal!??Just to let you know that I have recently used the Steel Seal product supplied by your company on my son's 1996 Fiat Punto. I followed the instructions that you issued for the product and after the first run up to engine operating temperature the head was still leaking water but, after allowing the engine to cool, I ran the engine back up to temperature and, hey presto!, the leak was sealed. I ran the engine back up to temperature a third time in-line with the instructions and, touch wood, the car is running fine with no signs of any problems with the head. What a great product and what great value. I had been quoted £300+ for repair to the head from my local garage, a cost that wouldn't have been viable for the age and value of this vehicle but you can't argue with £25.I am so pleased that I found your site before scrapping the vehicle and will be recommending this product to anyone that cares to listen. many thanks Andrew Smith, Ipswich??Hi steelseal,You were right! It was a lovely weekend! Our mechanic has used steelseal and the initial signs are that things are in the balance. The car temperature gauge is remaining at a constant safe level which is an improvement.Best wishes brian"

"Dear Steelseal.co.uk, Before buying Steel Seal for my BMW 528i E39 I did have some reservations. With a fractured head the only way to go would have been a replacement engine costing thousands of pounds. I am delighted to say that Steel Seal worked for me and I would highly recommend others trying it. There are lots of car owners who could save a serious amount of time, money and hassle! Thanks again, Bob, Ashford, Kent."

"Hi, Yes the product did arrive the very next morning. Thank you for the prompt service. The head gasket on my P reg rover 214 was leaking on the outside of the block quite badly (but not into the cylinders). The day before I found Steel Seal on the internet I had no choice but to drive the car & the head gasket gave in completely. With steam pouring out of the exhaust, a complete loss of power & all the water being dumped out the car was destined for the scrap yard as a repair cost on these all aluminium engines is more than my car is now worth. So I was a little sceptical about this product with the car in such an apparently irreparable state but for £24.99 it was worth a try. Having mixed and added the Steel Seal as per the instructions I ran the car and to my amazement within ten minutes the leaks had gone from pouring out to a tiny seep at the side of the engine block. After another couple of running and cooling sessions as per the instructions all leaks had completely gone and the exhaust fumes were dry with no steam. I've changed the oil to get rid of the gunk and coolant contamination and the car is now running as smooth as it ever was. This stuff is an absolute miracle! I still can't believe it fixed such a major repair problem so easily. If ever I come across anyone with a blown head gasket I will certainly recommend it! Thanks. Thanks again, and please feel free to use my feedback for marketing purposes if you wish. Mike.??I have a 1990 m535i e34 m30. we began to have head gasket problems when i heard about steel seel and thanks to your product we were able to do our traditional mad sunday lap on the isle of man tt course FANTASTIC STUFF!!!!!!"

"Dear Steelseal UK,.....I thought I would let you know how I got on,......Car was an L Reg Audi,...badly blown gasket with oil leakage into coolant etc,....radiator and matrix etc had to be flushed,....it was bad and the prognosis not very promising - all symptoms including white 'smoke' from exhaust and overheating etc etc - had been quoted £350 - £450 for repairs plus any required additional incidental work - I had been advised that the vehicle was probably beyond economical repair. If I cut to the quick, it took a day to flush and clean & prepare all before using the product - I did this over the easter bank holiday weekend - I am just back from a 10 day camping trip having done over 1000 miles with the car that was possibly destined for the scrapheap - the product worked and has continued to work - I am very pleased with it. Regards C"

"Hi, Used your product about a month ago on my daughters car, and i must say i was very sceptical at first, however after following the instructions it really does seem to have cured her blown cylinder head gasket. There is no more loss of water and the car seems to be running fine, I am very impressed thank you, Regards, TA Hughes."

"Hello there. I have a Rover 214i p reg and I used your Steel Seal last week ,and so far so good! The temp gauge sits at normal all the time now! It's only 5 days but the signs are good. If after 1 month it's still ok I will post you another testimonal to put on your web site. Thanks very much for your product. Richard."

"Hi, I used steel seal on my girlfriends punto when it was diagnosed that the head gasket was leaking. I followed the instructions and after the second run of the engine started to notice a difference in the engine sound & the exhaust output. Unfortunately the water pump started to leak. After fitting a new water pump & bleeding the cooling system the car stopped overheating and retained the cooling fluid. Steel seal really did the business, Thank you for saving me a lot of work & expense.Regards Vince."

"Hi I have used Steel Seal in my 1997 Toyota Previa which was using water with no external leaks and misfired on start up. All signs of possible head gasket failure. I am pleased to say after following the simple instructions these symptoms have gone and the vehicle seems to be running fine. I will say I was very sceptical about the product prior to use as I have used similar products in the past without lasting success in my 26 years in the motor trade. Steel Seal has saved me hours of hassle and hundreds of pounds so I would have no reservation in recommending it to others. A surprisingly good product that does "exactly what it says on the tin". Regards Ian"

"Hi, I used the SteelSeal yesterday on a Rover 416i with 60,000 miles on the clock. It had already had a head gasket change but there was a small leak of water from between the head and the block. I followed the instructions as laid down on the bottle and hey presto it worked. I will keep you up to date with how the engine runs over the next few months but I am more than happy with my purchase and would at the moment not only use it again but also recommend it to anyone who may need convincing. Thanks for your courtesy call and your help. Martin Wrench"

"Hi, Just a note to say I have installed your product into my 1997 Toyota Previa which was showing signs of head gasket failure ( water loss with no external leaks and misfire on start up ) at 89000 miles.Having followed the instructions I am pleased to say all the symptoms have gone and the Previa seems to be running fine.Steel Seal has saved me a considerable amount of time and expense as I would have had to replace the head gasket and possibly have the head and block repaired. I must admit I was sceptical about this product having worked in the motor trade for 26 years and having used similar products without success, but I must say I am impressed with your product and would recommend it to others. Regards, Ian Rhodes."

"Hi Chaps, We have had my wife's mercedes 190E from new and it now has 144,000 miles on the clock. It had been gradually using more water for a couple of years and I always suspected the cylinder head gasket but suddenly the rate of water loss accelerated and the engine started to run roughly when cold. So the time had come to do something about it. Most garages in London wouldn't even quote, just saying the car wasn't worth it. Well, it is proper engineering to change the cylinder hear and a time consuming and not very profitable for them exercise, so I can understand that. The only estimate I could get said between £700 - £1,000 - at least. So, do you scrap the car or get it fixed? Because this is a pristine merc 190 and it is such a beautiful drive and now old enough to qualify as a classic car it was worth fixing, even for a grand. The car had developed back pressure in the water system, it is always the rear sylinder that fails on mercs because that is the hottest burner. So, it was easy to identify which plug to remove, but a more complicated operation than just running the engine. I followed all the instructions to the letter, except that I couldn't raise the front wheels off the ground, so I just didn't do that. Running the engine with a spark plug removed makes a bit of noise and it wouldn't run at 1,000 rpm but it was fine at about 1,750. There were only two slight problems, what exactly is 210 degrees fahrenheit? Well, it's 98.9 deg C and the car's temperature gauge only says 80 and then there's an unmarked line and then a line marked 120, centigrade. So I ran the engine until the guage got to the mid range unmarked line instead. The second and by far the most difficult part of the exercise was fitting the new gasket over the thermostat housing before replacing it, that was fiddly and took about five minutes to master. I am not a mechanic. The engine now starts first time, (as it always did) there's no rough running when cold, it purrs like a kittten and there's no apparent water loss any more. I will definitely let you know how it goes, I bet it is good for another 40,000 miles. If I had treated it earlier I wouldn't have had to run the engine without the spark plug, but I was putting off dealing with it because of the perceived expense. And finally, instead of £1,000 it cost about £49.00. £29.00 for steel seal and about £20.00 for the new thermostat and 5 litres of anti freeze. If you have any doubts, just do it, there's nothing to lose. Keith,London
Thanks a lot
Ted"

"I have just bought a 1993 Toyota Lucida people carrier, but was unfortunate enough to buy it privately from an unscrupulous seller who failed to tell me it had a water leak, after driving the car for a few miles I noticed the engine temperature gauge was on the red mark and smoke/steam was coming up through the floor inside the cab. After phoning loads of garages for a quote on a replacement head gasket and being told anything between 600 and 1000 pounds to do the job I looked on the internet and found a product called STEAL SEAL. After reading the instructions carefully, I poured in the product in to the expansion tank of the radiator and after the time stated on the bottle, I found no more steam out of the exhaust and have had no water loss or loss of performance from the vehicle at all and we have used it every day since to do the school runs and round town and also travelled to Warwickshire to visit family and friends from Blackpool without any trouble at all. So all that is left to say is a very big thank you to Proppa cars ltd and to STEAL SEAL for an outstanding product and a lot smaller repair bill! thanks again Mark from Blackpool, Lancashire"

"Found other testimonials useful in overcoming my scepticism so pleased to add mine to the list! ?Can report apparently successful repair to 1999 90K miles Subaru 2.5 Dual cam Outback with ‘typical’ headgasket failure for this brand. Engine rebuild quote £1100!  We have recently invested nearly £1000 in new exhaust manifolds and rear brakes / disc etc so were reluctant to scrap our Scooby Doo before giving your product a try.?Used Halford antifreeze @ 1:1 ratio and did not remove thermostat.  Followed the paper instructions over a cold weekend and we are now on day 3 of no overheating or fluid loss! ?Congratulations – does what it says on the ‘bottle’?Simon Robbins?Sales Manager?Cherwell Valley Silos"

"Firstly thank you for your speedy response to my order. I would have confirmed receipt earlier had my computer not packed up! Now for the best news. We own two cars - an Astra S reg. 27000.00 miles and an Omega M reg 60000.00 miles. Both cars have been suffering the same symptons - white smoke from the exhausts, header tanks water emptying with no external leak, lumpy engines on start up & when idling and white sludge on the oil filler caps underside & in the cam covers. Your fluids were applied strictly according to instructions to both cars  and hey presto!! All symptons have disappeared with both engines running smoothly and now a pleasure to drive & with so much money saved-- £1600.00 at least for an outlay of £50.00 for two cars. I am absolutely delighted and will not hesitate to recommend the product to friends and neighbours.  Regards Denis Daly, Pinner, Middx..

Hi, I wanted to write and compliment you on your Steel Seal product. My Honda Legend was displaying the symptoms of compression gases entering the cooling system. Having grown up in the motor trade in the 70’s I was as sceptical as anyone else about this Midas liquid. In addition I was not able to remove spark plugs as suggested in the instructions. Yet it has worked the vehicle is running like a dream. Thank you for bringing the product to market and thank you for your advice.Tony Tucker"
