In reality, the grade given is generally a blend of visual and play testing and we always keep in mind what we would expect to receive when we receive items,If any item is''play tested'' it will mention this in the ad For covers and artwork I try to give a good idea of the flaws which lead me to my overall grading, but it is impossible to list every flaw on, for example, a well-used album cover. In many cases covers will have all-round wear (on the surface, edges and corners, and creasing) and I tend to characterise this kind of wear as light, regular or heavy depending how pronounced it is. Visual grading is a great guide, but there are always outliers. We have records that would grade visually as Very Good but playback is VG+. we also have at least one album that looks Near Mint but plays as Very Good, it’s just a poor pressing. That is why always happy to accept returns.
