High Shank Sewing Machine Feet

Will It Fit? These sewing machine feet will fit most high shank sewing machines. These are usually industrial sewing machines, not standard domestic sewing machines. High shank sewing machines have their screw for the feet approx 1 1/4 inches / 3.2cm up the pole, measuring from the base of the presser foot (Please note this is not referring to the screw that holds the needle) . The snap on feet are compatible with both high and low shank universal snap on adapters. For other types of sewing machine feet, please see our other listings.

Types Of Feet Snap On Feet:
  • Clear / Standard Default Zigzag Foot - This is the default universal sewing machine foot that usually comes supplied with your sewing machine. It is a multipurpose foot suitable for most sewing projects.
  • Quarter Inch Quilting Guide Sewing Machine Foot - This foot has a guide at the side which allows you to line the fabric edge up to sew straight stitch at a perfect quarter inch distance from the edge which is perfect for precision sewing or helping you your seams in a straight line.
  • Rolled hem and hemming feet - These feet help you to curl the fabric edge to sew a hem at an exact width. We recommend that you manually fold and finger press the first part of the fabric (approximately 1 inch/a couple of cm). Place it under the presser foot and sew a couple of stitches to hold in place, then lift the foot to feed the fabric into the guide to continue to sew your hem. For going over bulky seems and finishing off a hem that re-joins to where you started, simply lift the presser foot to unhook the fabric just prior to approaching that area. Light weight fabrics are often better suited to the narrower hems, and heavier weight fabrics to wider hems. Please note that the rolled hem creates approximately 1/8 inch hem (which is about 3mm).
  • Blind Hem Sewing Machine Foot - This foot helps you to sew blind hems which is a technique used to leave minimal signs of stitches at the front of the fabric on hemming. The front guide can also be used as a guide for top stitching, stitching in the ditch, or joining 2 pieces of fabric together with a zigzag stitch in the same way that you would use an edge-joining foot.
  • Zipper Foot & Narrow Zipper Foot - These feet allow you to sew close to the edge of zipper teeth or against raised surfaces such as piping. The standard zipper foot has 2 snap on positions to allow you to vary your zipper position. This means that both feet will allow you to sew either side of the central metal depending on whether your sewing machine allows you to change your needle position sufficiently across to the side (which not all do).
  • Invisible Zipper Sewing Machine Foot - This sewing machine foot helps you to secure invisible zippers by allowing you to sew close to the zipper teeth. The clear plastic increases visibility which helps you to ensure best positioning of the zipper to keep it hidden.
  • Edge Joining / Stitch In The Ditch Foot - This foot has a central guide which can be used a couple of different ways. You can use it to butt the edges of 2 pieces of fabric together to zigzag stitch or similar, to join them together with a flat seam, which is often used in projects like leggings. Or, the guide can be used to help you accurately follow a line to stitch over - for example quilting over the top of seams (called stitching in the ditch) or following lines of the fabric pattern, or following lines made with chalk or temporary fabric pens.
  • 3/5/7 Hole Cording Sewing Machine Foot - These feet help you to secure decorative threads, wools, ribbons or similar to a fabric by feeding through the desired hole and sewing a zigzag or decorative stitch over them. It can also be used for gathering by sewing a zigzag over a central thread, then pulling on the central thread to gather the fabric together. It can then be sewn over to hold the gathered position in place. Please note that the 3 hole foot allows for slightly larger cords than the 5 and 7 hole versions.
  • 5/9 Groove Pintuck Sewing Machine Foot - Using a double foot, you can use this foot to create raised ridges of sewing (pintucks) that are often seen on garments like blouses. The strength of the pintuck can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the upper thread tension. It is often considered that the 5 goove foot works better with heavier weight fabrics and the 9 groove more suitable for lightweight fabrics.
  • Teflon Foot - Teflon is a non stick coating which is applied to the under side of this presser foot. It helps it to glide over fabrics more prone to sticking or stretching.
  • Gathering Foot - This sewing machine foot helps to create fabric gathers. You can adjust your thread tension and stitch length to change the degree that this foot gathers your fabric.
  • Fringe Foot - This foot has a central raised bar that creates loops in the thread as you sew. This can be used to create a fringing effect, or used to sew in buttons where you want to create extra slack to go through thicker fabrics such as on coats.
  • Braiding Foot - You can use this foot to pass through narrow decorative ribbons, cords, braids, wools or piping to stich in place easily.
  • Stitch Guide Foot - This foot is useful for sewing at a set distance. This could be used for projects like quilting or keeping to a straight wide hem.
  • Overcast Foot - This sewing machine foot has a central bar next to a guide. By pushing the edge of your fabric up to the edge of the guide, you can sew a zigzag stich over the bar to hold perfect tension for sewing the edge of fabric. This creates an overlocker (serger) type of stitch on a standard sewing machine to finish up raw edges prone to fraying.
  • Bias Binding Foot - Bias binding can be passed through the guide of this sewing machine foot to help keep it folded centrally. There is a gap in the centre of the guide to butt the edge of your fabric up the the central binding fold to help you keep your position of the binding uniform along the edge to stitch down in place.
  • Felling Foot - This foot helps you to create flat felled seams which are commonly used in garments such as the side seams of jeans.
  • Roller Foot - There is a central roller at the front of this sewing machine foot which moves as the feed dogs pull the fabric through from underneath. This helps sew more tricky fabrics such as pvc, oilcloth, leatherette or fur type fabrics.
  • Bead Foot - this sewing machine foot helps you feed strings of small round beads or sequins into the central guide. You can then zigzag over them to hold them in place. We recommend you check that your beads move freely though the guide and the needle is able to clear them before you start stitching. Invisible thread can be useful to hide your stitching and give a more professional look.
  • Open Toe Foot - This foot has an extra wide opening at the front. This can accommodate wider embroidery stitches or be useful in sewing around appliques.
  • Button Foot -This foot helps you to hold your button still while you sew a zigzag stitch to secure it in place. We recommend that you check your needle positioning and stitch width before starting to sew to avoid needle breakages.
  • Buttonhole Foot - This foot helps to keep your fabric flat and in the correct position for sewing buttonholes by machine. The guide markings can be used to ensure that all your buttonholes are sewn to the same size. To decide the correct size buttonhole to sew, you can pass the button into the centre of the guide then add a little extra for ease (wider buttons and thicker fabrics will require more ease).
  • Double Welting Foot - This sewing machine foot has grooves underneath that allow piping and cords to run underneath so you can use it to sewing over piping or creating your own piping.
  • Knit Foot - This foot hooks over the needle bar then you snap it in place. This allows it to lift up and lower as the needle moves. It has a small blue gripper underneath which means that as the needle lowers, the foot lowers and the gripper holds the fabric still for the needle to pass through. Then as the needle lifts, so does the foot, which allows the stretch fabric to move freely without any tension. This reduces stretching, puckering and thread breakages which can otherwise occur with sewing stretch fabrics.
  • Thick Fabric Gliding Foot -This snap on foot is designed for sewing thicker fabrics such as denim, corduroy, canvas and similar. It has a sprung base and is able to tip both forwards and backwards whilst sewing. This allows it to move more easily over raised surfaces such as hems and seams.
Screw On Feet:
  • Ruler Foot -  This foot has raised edges, which allows you to sew directly around any raised surface as a template such as acrylic quilting rulers.
  • Walking Foot - This foot feeds fabric through from above at the same time as the fabric is moved through from below by the feed dogs. This helps to sew difficult to work with fabrics, stretch fabrics and multiple layers of fabric. The walking foot comes with a removable guide to help you sew a set distance for hems, seams or quilting.
  • Free Motion Darning Feet - These feet allow you to sew in any direction like "drawing" with the thread. Variations include open or closed foot fronts. Open fronted allows for quicker threading whereas the closed toe version is better when sewing areas that can be caught easily such as around appliques, or over fur fabrics or raised sewing areas. Guides help sew in repeated patterns by keeping stitching a set distance away.
  • Compensating Foot - This foot has one side higher than the other to allow you to easily sew over stepped uneven surfaces on thick fabrics such as top stitching a bulky hem or navigating around thick seams, or sewing alongside piping or bulky trims.
  • Adaptor - Also known as an ankle or snap on shank. This screws on to the bar for sewing machine feet to attach to and allows you to use snap on universal sewing machine feet.
