Creality Ender 3 / CR-10 Pin 27 Breakout Board for BL Touch Sensor This PCB provides a simple, and clean way to add a BL Touch (or a clone) levelling sensor to easily be added to a Creality 3D (Ender 2/3, CR-10, CR-10s, etc) printer without the need of cutting and soldering any cables. Simply remove the LCD cable from the EXP1 socket, connect this PCB in its place, and then plug the LCD cable into the socket on this board. It then provided a pin header for the signal, +5v and GND connections for the BL Touch sensor. This re-purposes pin 27 (which is usually used for the buzzer) to allow it to be used as the signal pin for the touch sensor. You will have to modify your Marlin firmware or use TH3D firmware to use this. IMPORTANT : The pins on the pin header should be in the correct order for the standard BL Touch cable, however please double check this to ensure these are connected correctly (particularly if a clone or self made cable) to avoid damaging the sensor or your control board. Some of the guides online relate to an alternative adaptor which requires you to swap the power wires around, this step is unlikely to be required for this adaptor. The pins are labelled clearly on the board (Signal, +5v, GND) to allow for easy identification.  This v2 version performs exactly the same as my previous version. After having someone provide some feedback as "other versions" have a full ground plane, I decided to implement this change for my new boards. PLEASE NOTE that this board really does not need a ground plane as it is merely a pass through adaptor with a breakout for the sensor, there is no circuitry involved to require this. If you already have my older design board then there is not really any need to upgrade.  Can also be used for other sensors if required, such as a filament run out sensor, or various other levelling sensors.  FAQ Q. Whats new in v2? A. The board has had a slight redesign, and after receiving some feedback it now has a full ground plane and thicker traces (although these were not really required). Another seller has suggested the traces used on other PCBs are "small" and "inadequate", this  is not the case with this board. The BLTouch's power consumption is stated as being 20mA with a max current of <300mA, the LCD display itself can draw around 110mA. Even if calculating the total current draw using the max current of the BLTouch at 300mA, then this together with the display still only draws 410mA. This is less than half of what the power traces on this PCB can handle. Q. Do you offer discount for multiple items? A. I can however this will cost quite a bit more. If you require this then please contact me so this can be arranged.  Q. I have no display or the board does not work. A. This board is a simple adaptor with no circuitry. There is not really anything that can go wrong. The usual issue where there is a blank display is usually one of two things:
  1. The breakout board was connected whilst the main board was powered on. Simply turning the printer off fully before connecting the board resolves this issue.
  2. The board is not inserted correctly. This is a common issue as the header on the bottom of the board is slightly smaller than the socket it connects to. This means that the board can be fitted to far over to one side, which misses two pins. Please check that the header is lined up with ALL the pins before inserting it and connecting the display.
Q. Why are the sensor pins in a different order to other boards? A. All the BLTouch sensors that I have come across have the wires in a certain order. I designed my board with this in mind so that the connector pins do not need to be swapped over on the sensor wires. Please bear this in mind and ensure your wires match correctly.  This is also the same pin order as used on Creality's own version of the pin 27 breakout board.  Q. Why pin headers and not a JST connector? A. The use of pin headers was simply due to most BLTouch sensors I have come across having this type of connector fitted on the supplied wires rather than JST connectors. These connectors do not fit correctly in JST sockets, and although they can be made to fit they can easily become disconnected. This is the same style connector as used on Creality's own version of the pin 27 breakout board, although the ones used on my boards are right angled to save space (on Creaility's boards you have to bed the pins due to space limitations). Q. What makes this different to the others? A. To be honest, all these pin 27 break out boards perform exactly the same function. Some use different connectors, and some use a different pin order for the touch sensor pins so bear this in mind when following any guides to wire them up.
