An excellent example of this classic Charles Dickens novel. This is a Chapman & Hall first edition -- the true first edition was by Bradbury & Evans. However, this first edition from C&H has many of the first edition features and errata (see final photos for evidence of these), and so is very early indeed.
In terms of condition, the spine has some noticeable wear - I like it as it adds to vintage feel, but the slight chips and scuffs are not for everyone. I've taken a close up photo to give best angle etc. The exterior in general has marks and bumps to corners, but all minimal, especially considering it's age. The spine is VERY tight and has been carefully handled. The decorative end pages and matching tips are in excellent condition and are beautiful in a classic, but equally contemporary marbling effect.
In terms of interior, there are examples of light, sporadic foxing. There is no personalisation. This is possibly the cleanest Dickens book I've ever seen (the combination of this and the decorative marbling is why it was in my personal collection*).
I use Walter E. Smith's bibliographical catalogue to test authenticity/edition of my Dickens books
All in all a rarity in excellent (dare I say near mint interior) condition and a perfect addition to a Charles Dickens/vintage book collector's library.
*I am unfortunately resigned to giving up my quest to collect all Dickens' first editions and have opted for a uniform set instead, thus, a regrettable, but necessary sale.
Best of luck with any offers 👍
Note: all books are delivered in bubble wrap and high quality brown paper for protection - postage cost slightly higher than standard courier costs to absorb this extra expense: I hope you understand. I also personally incur additional postage insurance for high value items such as this.
