Please take note that Rye Oil Ltd is the name of the company (based in Rye, East Sussex) and doesn't reflect the content of our product. It is 100% Pure Tung Oil.
Contains no solvents, driers or other additives.
Pure Natural Tung Oil is made from the pressed seed of the Chinese Tung Nut Tree, and gives a superior finish to linseed oil, which tends to darken with age. It has a smooth clear, low sheen finish that penetrates and nourishes wood, before sealing and providing a water resistant barrier.
Known for its long-term elastic properties, Tung Oil is able to move and flex as wooden surfaces and furniture expand and contract with changing temperature.
Being very safe to work with and maintain, Pure Chinese Tung Oil is safe and versatile and can be used on almost any wooden surface, including interior and exterior furniture, skirting boards, gates, children’s play areas, food preparation areas etc.
For new wood, the first two coats of Tung Oil should be applied thinly, and may be thinned 50% with white spirit, as this aids absorption into the wood. Allow to penetrate for 20-30 minutes before wiping off any excess with a lint-free cloth. The third and subsequent coats can be applied more heavily. For both interior and exterior wood 3-5 coats should be applied.
Tung Oil naturally has a low sheen finish, which can be buffed when dry with very fine grade (000) wire wool.
Tung Oil is a natural product and has no added driers. Allow 1-3 days between coats.
Important : Tung oil will bring out the natural colour of the wood. Always test the product on an inconspicuous area to ensure satisfaction.
.
NOTE: ALLERGY ADVICE: Nut Extract. May cause allergic reaction.
Method of application Best applied with a lint-free rag (e.g. T-shirt material). May also be applied with a good quality brush. The first two
coats of Tung Oil should be allowed to penetrate fully before adding further coats.
Coverage 10-15 m2 per litre per coat, depending upon porosity, surface texture and thickness applied.
Drying time at 200C: 12 hours to three days per coat, depending on thickness applied.
Surface Preparation Ensure surfaces are clean and dry. Remove all dirt and grease before application of Tung Oil. For aged wood sand back
to a clean ‘bright’ surface and wipe with white spirit to remove all dust and debris.
