A first edition of 'The Poetical Works of John Langhorne...', printed in London, 1804. Complete in two volumes.
Small 8vo, two volumes uniformly bound in period blindtooled and gilt decorated full straight grained calf, spines with four broad raised bands, all page edges marbled. Period marbled endpapers, early ink manuscript ownership inscriptions to upper fe's. Measuring approx 12cm by 19cm.
The contents of both volumes are complete, meeting collation: iv, 191; iv , 214pp, with the portrait frontispiece and three engraved plates.
The bindings are holding firmly and in good condition, rubbed and scuffed to surfaces, two small spots of loss to upper boards of both volumes, bumped and abraded to extremities, spines darkened, short cracks to hinges and areas of loss at head of upper hinges to both volumes, foot of upper hinge volume two. Textblocks are holding firmly in the main, pp7-10 in volume one pulling away at foot with one inch tear in gutter of pp9/10, contents in good crisp and clean condition, lightly toned with occasional minor spots, marks or finger soiling, marginal damp stain to foredge of frontispiece. The plates a touch dustmarked and offset onto adjacent leaves. Early ink ownership inscriptions to uppe fe's in both volumes.
